On the train

Taking your bike on the train is free! You can hop on most of our trains without needing to reserve a bike space, check your journey here.​​​​​​

Travelling to/from Stratford, Liverpool Street or Cambridge station? Full-size bikes are not allowed during these busy periods.

Our cycle zones are marked green on the outside of the train, but there are limited spaces. For fire safety reasons, e-scooters are not allowed on our trains.

    Do you need to reserve a bike space?

    For many of our journeys, you can simply hop on the train without reservation.

    You will need to reserve a bike space for our Norwich and London Intercity services. These are trains which only stop at:

    Greater Anglia's intercity services call at Norwich, Diss, Stowmarket, Ipswich, Manningtree, Colchester, Chelmsford, Stratford and London Liverpool Street.

    How to reserve a space

    • You can make a reservation when buying a ticket on our website
    • Call our customer relations team 24 hours ahead of your journey to arrange and amend bookings on 0345 600 7245 (option 8).

    Spaces are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

    How to collect your cycle space ticket

    You can collect your reservation from one of our ticket machines. You'll get two printed copies, one to attach on your bike and the other one to keep for yourself.

    Travelling to/from Cambridge, London Liverpool Street or Stratford?

    Full-size bikes are not allowed on trains during these busy periods:


    • Arrivals between 07.45 - 08.45 Monday to Friday (not including bank holidays).

    • Arrivals between 07.45-09.45 (Monday-Friday)
    • Trains leaving between 16.30-18.30 (Monday-Friday)

    Except for Intercity services, as long as you have a cycle reservation.

    How to get a pass

    We carry out regular reviews of bike security at our stations. Our cycle parking is protected by CCTV and new LED lighting. Many thousands of people park their bikes at our stations each year without a problem.

    Always lock your bike, using one or two high-quality locks, such as a Sold Secure Diamond or Gold D-Lock, also known as a U-Lock. No matter how much your bike is worth, always choose the best lock you can afford.

    Useful Info

    If your bike is stolen from one of our stations, please report it to the police as soon as you can. We can only give CCTV footage to the police so they can request CCTV footage from us as part of their investigation. Here's some tips on what to do if your bike is ever stolen.

    4* bikes for every 5 carriages.

    Great Eastern main line commuter services (Ipswich, Colchester, Clacton, Walton-on-the-Naze, Harwich, Southend Victoria, Southminister - London Liverpool Street)

    4* bikes for every 5 carriages.

    Stansted Express Sorry, no full size bikes are allowed on the Stansted Express service at any time.

    *There are certain times of day where full size bikes aren't allowed on trains arriving or leaving departing from Stratford, Liverpool Street or Cambridge.
