We're switching to Smart Cards from 31 October. When you renew or buy a new monthly, custom duration or annual season ticket, paper will not be an option. Apply for your Smart Card online if you don't already have one. If you prefer to do it in person nearly all ticket offices can issue Smart Cards and Smart Card Season tickets.

Types of Season Ticket

With an Annual Season Ticket you pay for 40 weeks and get 12 weeks of free travel. That’s a saving of 23% compared to the cost of weekly tickets.

Your Gold Card gives you some great discounts on other rail journeys for yourself and others after 09:30 Monday – Friday, and all day weekends and bank holidays.

Annual Gold Card benefits

  • 1/3 off Standard and First Class Anytime and Off-Peak tickets anywhere within the Greater Anglia network and beyond. Click here to see where you can use the Gold Card.
  • Up to three additional adults travelling with you (aged 16 or over) get 1/3 off as well.
  • Up to four children aged between 5 and 15 pay just 40% of the child fare.
  • 1/3 off Oyster off-peak pay as you go single fares and daily price cap (the Annual Gold Card needs to be loaded onto an Oyster card for this discount and can be done at London Underground, London Overground, TFL Rail and some National Rail stations by a member of staff).

Priced at less than four Seven Day Season Tickets, a Monthly Season is valid for a full calendar month from the date of commencement.

Travelcard Season Tickets are also available that provide unlimited travel on London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, London Buses and almost all National Rail services within the zones for which they are issued. Please note that a Travelcard issued to Zones 1-6 is not valid on Southeastern High Speed 'Javelin' services between Stratford International and St Pancras International, nor on Heathrow Express or Connect services to Heathrow Airport.

These normally cost less than five Standard Day Returns and are valid for seven days between the stations shown on the ticket. They are valid for any period of seven days - you don't have to start your ticket on a Monday.

Smart Cards are available from the majority of Greater Anglia stations. Using a Smart Card for your Season Ticket is much quicker. If you travel through a station with automatic ticket barriers, you’ll no longer need to feed your ticket through the gate - simply touch your Smart Card on the reader.

Smart Cards are plastic and are much tougher than paper tickets. This means they’re more durable so you’re less likely to need a replacement.

For many journeys within Norfolk, Suffolk and parts of Cambridgeshire, Season Tickets are issued as "Anglia Plus" tickets. These give you unlimited travel within any one, two or three zones: Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, instead of being valid between two named stations.

Anglia Plus Season Tickets are available for fixed periods of one week, one month and one year. The start date can be any day of the week.

Buy weekly, monthly and annual tickets from any staffed booking office. You can also buy weekly tickets from the conductor aboard any of our rural services in the Anglia Plus area. You can't buy Anglia Plus Season Tickets online.

Zones

  • The Norfolk zone covers the area bounded by the coast, Thetford, Diss and Lowestoft.
  • The Suffolk zone covers the area bounded by Somerleyton (via Lowestoft), Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Ipswich.
  • The Cambridge zone covers the area bounded by Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Ely and Thetford.

A ticket valid in both Norfolk and Suffolk is valid between Stowmarket and Diss.

You can use Anglia Plus Season Tickets on the following local bus services, dependent on the zones in which they are valid:

  • Between Norwich station and anywhere within Norwich bus zones 1-4 by any direct First Eastern Counties bus from the Norwich station area.
  • Between Ipswich or Derby Road stations and Ipswich Town Centre on any direct services by First Eastern Counties or Ipswich Buses, or by Ipswich Buses to Ipswich Hospital (Heath Road) or Ransomes Industrial Estate.
  • Between Great Yarmouth station and the town centre or beach on any direct service operated by Anglian Coaches.

Anglia Plus tickets are also available as a One-Day Ranger and a 3-Days-in-7 Rover.

Switch and save

Commuting to London from Cambridge? You can save up to £412 a year on your monthly Season Ticket if you switch from Great Northern to Greater Anglia, just by joining our Season Direct scheme. Due to changes in the banking system and the withdrawal of the cheque guarantee system, Greater Anglia (along with many other Train Companies) no longer accepts personal cheques as a way of paying for railway tickets. We accept cash and debit/credit cards as the main methods of payment for rail travel.

We still accept company cheques (excluding those where the signatory is “Trading As”, “T/As” or any other derivatives).

Company cheques should be made payable to "Abellio East Anglia Limited" and are accepted subject to the following conditions:

No preprinted company logo and address on the cheque – just the logo of the bank

You will need to:

  1. Supply an original A4 letter headed paper with the cheque which is applicable to the company where the cheque originates. This must include a verifiable company address.
  2. And present one of the following forms of ID applicable to the actual ticket holder (these must be originals – not copies) and include the ticket holder's home address:
    1. Original utility bill dated within the last six months
    2. Bank statement from within the last six months
    3. Driving licence
    4. Current rent agreement or council tax bill
    5. Official notification of tax code change from HM Revenue & Customs

Preprinted company logo and address applicable to the company from which the money is being drawn

You will need to:

  1. Be prepared to supply a verifiable company address which will be written on the reverse of the cheque.
  2. Be prepared to supply the name and address of the actual ticket holder which will be written on the reverse of the cheque.

  • You can now buy your Season Ticket online.
  • If you are purchasing a Season Ticket for the first time, you must provide a recent passport-type photograph of yourself for us to issue you a photocard.
  • Children may be required to provide proof of age.
  • Please note that many Season Tickets issued for travel within Norfolk and Suffolk, and north and east of Cambridge are issued as zonal "Anglia Plus" seasons. These are not available for purchase online. You can purchase weekly, monthly and annual Anglia Plus seasons from any staffed station. You can also purchase weekly Anglia Plus tickets from the conductor aboard our rural services in Norfolk and Suffolk.

Renewing your Season Ticket

If you currently hold an annual Season Ticket and want to renew it, you can usually do so up to seven days in advance of when your new one needs to start (provided there is no break in continuity).

  • Log into your account and then renew your Season Ticket online.
  • Alternatively, pop into your nearest station ticket office.
  • You will need to have your photocard ID number.

Renew your Season Ticket

For purchases at a station, there are restrictions as to how far in advance you can buy your Season Ticket. This depends on whether the ticket is valid for a week or for a month or more and on whether or not there will be a break in continuity - or if it is the first time you have bought this ticket. These rules are set nationally and apply to all Train Companies.

New tickets or renewals following a break of continuity

7-Day Seasons and Travelcards

A ticket may be issued:

  • On the start date.
  • If the start date is a Monday (or a Tuesday after a Bank Holiday), the ticket may be issued from 0600 hours on the previous Sunday.

Period Seasons and Travelcards (including Annual and Gold Cards)

  • If the start date is a Saturday, Sunday or Monday (also Tuesday after a Bank Holiday), the ticket may be issued from noon on the previous Friday.
  • If the start date is another day, the ticket may be issued after noon on the previous day.

Renewals – where the current ticket is SURRENDERED with NO BREAK OF CONTINUITY

7-Day Seasons and Travelcards

A ticket may be issued:

  • If the start date is a Sunday or Monday (or Tuesday after a Bank Holiday), the ticket may be issued from noon on the previous Friday.
  • If the start date is another day, the ticket may be issued after noon on the previous day.

Period Seasons and Travelcards (including Annual and Gold Cards)

  • The ticket may be issued any time up to SEVEN DAYS in advance.

Over the Christmas and New Year holiday period these rules are generally relaxed. Please enquire at your local staffed station.
