Rail passengers using Witham rail station are to benefit from a better waiting environment thanks to an improvement scheme to be carried out by Abellio Greater Anglia.
The station is about to benefit from a £115K investment to upgrade both waiting rooms and the toilet facilities and create easier access for those with mobility issues.
A new, larger waiting room will be created on Platform 1/2 with the demolition of the existing ladies’ toilet facilities and ladies’ waiting room to create one larger waiting area.
The new waiting room will benefit from DDA compliant push button automatic doors, a train departure summary screen and energy-efficient heating, as well as new flooring and seating and redecoration in Abellio Greater Anglia colours. It will also offer passengers the opportunity to charge laptops and mobile phones and work while they wait with a specially made wall mounted work top with plug sockets and three bar stools.
Brand new ladies’ toilet facilities will be installed next to the existing male facilities further down the platform and the existing staff toilet facilities will also be completely refurbished.
The waiting room and disabled toilet facility on Platform 3/4, will also be refurbished. The waiting room will benefit from new DDA compliant push button automatic doors, train departure summary screen and energy-efficient heating, as well as new flooring and seating and redecoration in Abellio Greater Anglia colours.
The platforms will benefit from additional seating as the waiting rooms’ existing benches will be relocated.
The work, funded by Access For All, is due to start during November and follows the refurbishment of the disabled toilet on platform 1/2 at the beginning of the year, which was officially opened by Priti Patel MP in February.
