Abellio Greater Anglia rail passengers can now, for the first time, purchase same day train tickets via an app and receive them straight to their mobile phones.

The innovative ticketing development means that passengers can now buy their ticket whenever and wherever they are, using an app on their mobile phone.

Previously customers have been able to purchase Advance tickets and receive them on their mobile phones, and now the facility has been extended to offer same day tickets to some of Abellio Greater Anglia’s routes. More will be added after this initial roll out.

The new facility is available between:

  • Southend, Wickford and Liverpool Street for off peak tickets.
  • Ely, Stansted Airport and all stations between Cambridge and Liverpool Street for off peak tickets.
  • Norwich, Stowmarket, Sheringham, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and London Liverpool Street for off peak tickets.

Peak tickets are also available for intermediate journeys. Tickets are valid for Abellio Greater Anglia services only.

To use the new service, passengers simply download and install the Abellio Greater Anglia app, buy tickets and have them sent straight to their mobile phone. There is no need to print the tickets.

Customers receive a readable ticket and a barcode for checking and opening gates with their mobile phone.

The ticketing app is being supplied by Masabi and the Trainline. The Trainline will be responsible for after-sales service, such as refunds.

Andrew Goodrum, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Customer Service Director, said: “As a forward thinking operator, Abellio Greater Anglia is pleased to introduce this exciting ‘next generation’ ticket-selling technology which will make the ticket purchasing process more convenient and faster for our customers.”
